Street Wax: The First Formula, the First Risk, the First Victory
Why did Street become a legend for Scissor Hands?
Because it was the first formula we developed ourselves.
Street taught us how to build flexible, pliable textures: strong hold without greasiness, control without stiffness, and a soft feel during application.
Street lifted the brand and remained our No. 1 best-selling product for a long time. Its story is a story of risk, formula, scent, change, and a return to our roots.
The first version of Street was born in the undercut era, when longer tops needed confident hold without a heavy feel.
Version 1. The Undercut Era
Street was one of the first three products we launched on the market. In many ways,
it decided whether the brand would survive or die at the start.
Looking back at that moment, I remember how long and stubbornly I worked on its
formula. I remember the internal debates inside the brand about which scent to
choose. And after all the edits and decisions, the moment came to send the wax for
testing to the first store that agreed to work with us — Hair Stuff.
I remember the trembling feeling when I realized that now someone other than me
would decide whether Street was good or bad. And what if it was bad? Then
everything I had built, everything I had risked, could be destroyed and devalued.
I felt sick.
And then the answer came:
«Guys, this is really cool. We’ll buy your products.»
That answer brought me to tears.
The Bubble Gum Scent
We launched Street with a bubble gum scent.
Today it sounds natural, but back then, choosing the scent was a small battle. In 2015, the market was ruled by fresh Gillette-style scents or essential oils. People pushed me toward a pine scent, but I insisted on bubble gum.
I was judged for it.
But in the end, the combination of hold and scent became exactly what people loved Street for.
Version 2. Pilgrim
Time passed, and the market changed. Criticism appeared: waxes were becoming too dense, too hard, and too heavy in use. Water-based products were entering the
scene — softer, more matte, easier to apply.
Street had to change or disappear.
In 2017, production was only beginning its transformation and learning how to work with water-based textures.
Street once again became a pioneer: it became the first product to take the risk of a new formula.
And once again, it worked.
The classic scent worked smoothly with the updated formula, and Street returned to the top 3 best-selling products of the brand.
Then tragedy happened. A key component of the formula was discontinued. Street entered a period of experiments. Its reputation began to suffer.
Version 3. Reincarnation
In 2020, we found the right formula.
The product became softer in density, kept good hold, and started giving high-quality
texture to the hair. Technologically, it was a very strong version.
But there was one big nuance.
The original scent didn’t work with the new formula. So we decided to replace it with a similar, but more perfume-like version.
The replacement was technically good. The scent became richer and more perfume- like. But it was no longer the scent everyone knew.
By that time, the era of men’s haircuts was also changing: after the wave of undercuts, crop was coming to the front — a shorter, denser shape with a more
natural hair relief. The third version of Street became a response to that shift.
Version 4. Return to the Roots
Street taught us a lot about working with oil-based formulas. When we decided to develop solid colognes on an oil base, we took the concept of
the Street wax formula as the foundation and updated it with new knowledge. Solid colognes came from that formula, and later — moustache wax.
It was the moustache wax formula that gave birth to Original — a direct successor to the philosophy of the first Street, but stronger in execution. It is dense, but soft to work with. Oil-based, but easy to wash out. It adds depth to the hair color, gives strong hold, and carries an old-school spirit.
I saw great potential in it, but I didn’t want to remove Street in its new form. So I
decided to create a separate branch and give it a new name — Original.
A Story That Lives On
Styles come and go. Formulas change. The market keeps moving.
But there is a product, and there is its story.
Street was the first big risk, the first independent formula, the first proof that Scissor Hands could create a product people choose for a reason.
Its story will live as long as people keep coming back to it, choosing Street again and again.
